Review of Magic (1978) by Dryorophus — 10 Aug 2008
"A terrifying love story" is what the sleeve hilariously promised, and that's what Dickie Attenborough's film delivered. Why has no-one seen or even mentioned a film about a ventriloquist/magician played by Anthony Hopkins who loses his mind when the act becomes reality.
Jerry Goldsmith's score is both haunting (honky-tonk) and beautiful (strings for the love scene with Ann-Margret). Great story-telling, swearing and Hopkins losing it with an American accent. Please witness this.
