Review of Maggie (2015) by Jeff K — 07 Jul 2015
Maggie is a missed opportunity to being something better in this post apocalyptic drama film that has great talent with Abigail Breslin and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Maggie has a dull story, and a script that does not have an impacting story.
It is different territory to see Arnold Schwarzenegger taking on this role about a father Wade, who struggles through the post apocalyptic society as his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) is infected.
Maggie is slowly transforming into the undead, and Wade will hold onto her every single second she has. That is basically the plot of the movie. It is different type of zombie movie that does not really focus on anything else, except for the title characters name and her transformation through the infection.
At the same time, the plot is unmemorable and the script does lack some characterization. Arnold does give a more emotional depth with his character, than he has ever played in his other movies. The script is so shallow with the characterization, that when the movie reaches its end, it ends with the feel of that is it question.
It is a slow moving drama film, the direction tried to be artistic with the close up look and some isolation of the post apocalyptic setting. The plot is dull, seeing Maggie slowly turning into a zombie and Wade trying to hold out for the final moment of her passing.
Maggie is a boring drama film that is slow, and lacking character depth but at least it has likable casts of Arnold and Abigail giving a little more out of their performance.
