Review of Maggie (2015) by Robert I — 09 May 2015
I'll watch any Arnold movie, so no matter what I was going to watch this. That aside, here we have a different kind of zombie movie. Maggie was bit and will become a zombie. The movie focuses on the final days of such a situation where a father struggles with either having her go to get killed at government quarantine camps, or doing the deed himself. I guess that's an interesting concept, but I will admit I feel like Zombie movies are at their own final days when this is the territory we have left to explore. The film is a slow burn drama, so there's no Arnold action awesomeness. Spoiler Alert, the third act is not Abigail turning into a zombie and Arnold locked in a house with her needing to kill her, which would've been the obvious choice. This film is probably getting poor reviews because it is somewhat dull, but oh well. I just need some Arnold in my life and while here he's subdued, it'll do.
Best aspect of the film? Sense of place. The sound design and cinematography do a great job establishing this farm and placing you there. Hobson, if you're reading this, that was very well done.
