Review of Maestro (2003) by Fred S — 18 Nov 2007
A loving tribute to the spirit of underground house music and Larry Levan. Along the way, you are exposed to a repressed community that came together to form a movement that still exists today. A movement based on general acceptance, peace, individuality and celebrating diversity.
This documentary is recommended for anyone who is into house, deep house, soulful house, garage. It is faithful to the scene, covering the Garage and The Loft. The moment where Francois K talks about the effect of AIDS on the scene is quite moving, as this film deftly dances between talking heads, photos, old clips, and hot tracks.
Love it.
