Review of Madonna: Truth or Dare (1991) by Michael D — 31 Dec 2011
One of my all-time favourite films. It's hard to believe that it's now 21years old, because I've spent the last 10 years seeing it as a fashion bible. Every time I see it, I see something new, just out of camera range.
And I go: Oooooh! In the beginning it was just fun, but over the years Truth Or Dare has become a cherished and personal gem. One to watch alone, admiring the flamboyant dancers, and drawing inspiration from Madonna at the pinnacle of her career.
It makes me wish I was a little bit older when she hit my town on her Blond Ambition tour. I was just this kid in the front row cheering Madonna on and being completely mesmerized and shocked (Like A Virgin).
Today, I get the endless wit, I get her take on taboos and I see her journey from pop star to a full blown Icon. I see the references to Cabaret, Burlesque, Peepshow, and what have you. But most of all, I see fabulous outfits, on and off stage.
