Review of Mademoiselle Fifi (1944) by Giovanni V — 30 Mar 2008
This and "Youth Runs Wild" stand out among Val Lewton's films, as they are not horror movies. This is the more successful of the two. The beautiful Simone Simon finally gets to play a French woman, rather than a Eastern European cat person.
Jason Robards' dad shows up again. A period piece about Germans invading France, released in 1944, is certainly interesting. But this is no Casablanca.
