Review of Mademoiselle Chambon (2009) by Adam P — 01 Feb 2011
It's emotionally authentic enough that I can forgive it for its cliches; this is very much a throw-back to the 1940's "women's weepie" picture, though this film gives tremendous depth to the male character, in particular, that few of those films did).
When you make a film this fragile and quiet, every element takes on added significance. The problem here is that the screenwriting, while not overtly showy, is rather over-determined at times, and there are also several 2 shots which are a bit too intrusive in terms of the psychological motivation for the camera movements in the rest of the film.
