Review of Madea's Family Reunion (2006) by Yomi P — 13 Apr 2008
Madea's Family Reunion is a solid movie, with good intentions and solid acting spoiled by the most trite and often most hated stereotypes of african americans. It reduces an intellectually brilliant race to southern, fried-chicken obsessed, basketball obsessed, corn obsessed, broken-english speaking race with 'an attitude'.
Madea's character is a horendous gimmick, insufferable, obnoxious, irrelevent, and unfunny; distracting from it's heart of gold and making it into a rehash of The Nutty Professor: The Klumps trashy southern humor.
These faults are what drag a decent and morally solid movie down to mediocracy. 4/10..
