Review of Madea Goes to Jail (2009) by Jake W — 04 Oct 2009
This was the first Tyler Perry movie Ive scene (apart from his cameo in Star Trek), so just to start I am NOT used to this kind of movie. The movie has a promising redemption plotline with Derek Luke and Keshia Knight Pulliam and as a drama would be nice, but whenever Madea or Uncle Joe comes onscreen the drama comes to a crashing halt and attempts to be a comedy.
Its not that funny, and Perry's Madea character....an old black church lady from Hell....is quite annoying. Of course, the other character isnt much better....Uncle Joe, an old senile pot smoker. Both characters are way underdeveloped, and they belong in a separate movie.
And for being titled "Madea Goes To Jail", Madea isnt in jail that much. The most disorganized and genre-confused movie I have scene in awhile. And the one star is from the one chuckle I got out of the whole movie.
