Review of Made in Dagenham (2010) by Trevor W — 10 Oct 2010
Obviously, the true story is inspiring, but this film's strength is as much in its cast as it is in its subject matter. Sally Hawkins is exceptional and Bob Hoskins' supporting role was great too. Miranda Richardson does a good turn and my wife spotted the Richard Schiff who plays Toby from The West Wing - one of TVs best ever characters - and credit to him because I didn't even know it was him until the movie had ended.
The period was brilliantly brought to life and we drove home once again remembering that there surely cannot be a better time to be alive than right now - and this, in no small part, is down to some amazing history-makers who sparked the changes that have led us to where we are now.
This is another lottery / BBC funded movie that I don't resent. Yes, it did get a little sacharine in places, but this is no "The Boat That Sucked" -it's very good.
