Review of Made in Dagenham (2010) by Dickie L — 29 Oct 2010
Another in the long line of feel-good, underdog beats the system, British films, and as such it ranks pretty low down on the list. Numbingly unoriginal and painted with such broad strokes, its pretty hard to imagine that what we're watching is actually based on real people and events.
As is often the case with films like this, the best part is watching the real life figures who appear all too fleetingly during the closing credits. It might be admirable to tell stories about social issues, but why play it safe and recount a story that's 40 years old? The story itself is very straightforward and hardly warrants the 2 hours indulged on it here.
Sally Hawkins gives another performance devoid of light and shade. Supporting cast are much better - I can never resist Miranda Richardson nor Rosamund Pike. No doubt my mother will like this, bit it aint for me.
