Review of Made in Dagenham (2010) by Stephen R — 29 Oct 2010
It's good to see a proper British film on the big screen, this has got British splashed across it in bucket loads. Kinda in the same vein as 'Calendar Girls', maybe not as good, but definitely worth a watch and a story worth telling.
Sally Hawkins in the main part is a quiet lead but works well down to charisma and charm whilst the stand out for me was Rosamund Pike as the posh bird who oozed class but was so robbed of screen time.
Loved the look of the film, very authentic of the era, and the film held my attention throughout and found it enjoyable. Though I did feel it was a little lacklustre in places and could have been told better in a different way; though I'm no director so unsure in what different way! Anyway an unusual fact from the film, found out that majority of ford women in Dagenham at the time worked in their underwear!!! Bet that doesn't happen these days!!
