I really don't get this pervasive notion that good actors and good intentions automatically equal good cinema. There were a few camera moves and compositions that caught my eye, and Cole did present a fairly authentic-feeling depiction of British working class life, but this was otherwise completely by the numbers.

If you're going to manipulate me, please make sure I'm not acutely aware of it.
