Review of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008) by Robert C — 29 Oct 2011
I am surprised. "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" is probably the only DreamWorks animated sequel that actually topped the first. "Madagascar", for all I know, was enjoyable but it squandered its potential.
"Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" makes up for that. While the plot is basically "The Lion King" meets sophomoric comedies, it does have a surprising ounce of character development and some appealing new characters.
It has better gags and it doesn't rely solely on pop culture jokes, and the art direction isn't bad at all. The first film had a unique style, and this one is no different. It's basically a enjoyable but dumb animated film, but it's surprisingly a pretty good effort from DreamWorks.
