Review of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008) by Ale L — 02 Jan 2014
I disliked Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa when I first viewed it because I found the plot to be too formulaic and that the jokes were not as fresh as in its predecessor. Re-viewing it was sure to reveal an alternative opinion within me.
And despite me finding the issues to be the same, I did find more joy in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.
To clarify the problems in the film, the jokes and characters aren't as fresh in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and the story is significantly more cliche and predictable, considering it follows story elements from The Lion King while attempting to add its own twist. It succeeds at that and it certainly is funny, but Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is certainly not as impressive as it's predecessor.
But Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is most certainly a good film. It has much of the childish fun of its predecessor and plenty of laughs.
Although it didn't present many new characters to the story, it did make sure that the characters introduces in the first Madagascar are as good as ever with fine voice acting and plenty of wit.
And of course the animation is still excellent, with plenty of colour and powerful visual appeal which makes Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa a great visual experience, nearly equal to its predecessor.
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa really knows what made its predecessor so successful and copies many of the elements to the appeal of the viewers and critics everywhere, and so it's worthy sequel which explores putting its characters in a more natural setting and a comedically interesting one, and it has all the necessary spirit to succeed as a good animated piece and a fine sequel. It's soundtrack is good too.
Really, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is simply a fun animated piece which keeps the energy of its characters alive without exceeding the quality of its predecessor or being all that weak at all.
