I loved this movie as a kid, one of my favorites.
Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman are well known animals at the Central Park Zoo. They try to escape for the wild for some fun, but soon find themselves on the desert island of Madagascar. They try to find ways out after meeting the island's inhabitants of lemurs like King Julien and his servants, Maurice and Mort. The main problem, however, is fighting the island's feared baboosa.
Man, I liked this movie a lot as a kid. I think Dreamworks is like the 2nd Pixar, only it's humor is a bit different. This movie has an all-star cast including Ben Stiller, Chris Rock; etc. However, don't try watching the others in the series. I think that the other movies in the series aren't as funny as this one, but I really recommend this film. I think the kids will like it and so will the adults.
