Review of Madagascar (2005) by Christopher S — 23 Aug 2012
A good film but was this worth multiple sequels? I would say no but I am going to guess that Dreamworks could not come up with another original idea so they tried to bleed Madagascar dry like they do everything else (see Shrek).
The funniest moments in the film (and the franchise in general) are the penguins, especially Skipper as voiced by the hilarious Tom McGrath. Ben Stiller was adequate as Alex the Lion and Chris Rock was OK as Marty the Zebra.
I also liked Sacha Baron Cohen as King Julien. The voice casting was well done overall but the script was weak and the direction was not that great. Obviously Dreamworks was not seeking Academy Awards but rather only money, so in that respect they succeeded.
This is an adequate film but a film just based on the penguins would have been much funnier.
