Review of Madagascar (2005) by Diacono C — 20 Feb 2013
Lame scatalogical gags and worn pop-culture parodies abound, but the CGI animation romp is somewhat redeemed by the scene-stealing appearances of several supporting characters. Doesn't really live up to the promise that the idea and voice talent deserve.
But it's still spirited, amiable, featherweight summer fun. The voice talent is still good, the plot ok but doesn't really have many action scenes that it should've needed. It's still watchable but for me this is the kinda film that if there's nothing better on, then this will be it.
It's a shame because Dreamworks have done better, still it did produce sequels, so it can't be that bad. Though the animation is acceptable and oddly quick it almost put me off. Kids will love it though and does have the odd charm.
To be honest, it was the penguins who stole the film.
