Review of Madaari (2016) by Mayank A — 13 May 2018
The movie had a great idea but bungled up in the execution. The storytelling is based on a revenge plot by a common man, he undergoes a personal tragedy due to a corruption-related disaster and now is looking for justice. He goes about in achieving it by kidnapping a minister's son. The movie is supposed to be based on real-life events, but on digging deeper found it to be a false claim, only the disaster happened, no one went about seeking retribution in such a style.
The problem with the movie was the pacing, with a run time of 2 hr 13 minutes, it's about 40 to 50 minutes too long. Many scenes and sequences were dragged out and not needed, if they could have edited those out, the watching experience would have been more entertaining. It would have been a terrible movie if not for Irrfan Khan's performance, as usual he gives a powerful one.
It's really a 3-star movie, but taking one off for the silly claim of based on Real Life Events.
