Review of Mad Money (2008) by Matt P — 13 Apr 2011
I think I can let this film pass as far as entertainment value goes. It's got some laughs, some ups and downs. Queen Latifah in particular probably be stood out among the three leads. But where I can NOT let it slide, is the story.
Oh, not that's ok, right? It's just a harmless comedy, right? Wrong. A film that starts off with information about the Federal Reserve Bank and suddenly talks about three workers stealing from it, does not come off to me as harmless.
Just because it's a Hollywood picture with three famous actresses does not allow it to be pawned off as "just another comedy." First of all, there's no way ANYONE, and I mean anyone, could steal from the Federal Reserve Bank.
Nobody is close enough to grasp the money. If they get it even past the checking out section of the Bank, the "shredded" money is still calculated and kept on record. And don't tell me this movie will have any sort of money-laundering, it's just too ridiculous.
So aside from a stretched premise, the laughs aren't even that great. The humor is forced and never genuine, in fact it's rather cringe worthy and annoying. The kind of humor where the Bank manager would crack a joke and then wink at audience, as if to reassure he doesn't really mean it.
I guess it was mildly entertaining. The only part I can say I really liked was when they're all arrested at the end, but besides that, everything else was fake and unconvincing. Especially the ending.
it was just dumb and pissed me off.
