Review of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) by Casandra C — 04 Apr 2009
Caught this on Spanish television. You can?t top Mad Max 2. But this was the family friendly effort. And if you take it for what the intention was, take the Mad max story and hark back to the first one, which no one in the US saw, and make Max a father again. For that intention and direction of the story, this one is pretty good. I actually like this movie. It?s not 2/Road Warrior, but nothing can ever be again. Road chaos movies end up looking like the new Death Race.
I think this was a very good creative direction and offers enough action and story to keep it all interesting. I think they can still make another, but have to make it in the vain of an more exact and aggressive version that probably isn?t family friendly. And, despite the state of the world now, don?t bring in the symbolic references. This movie made a nice bridge of energy flow, and the tension for Gibson and Turner isn?t bad. Plus, Thunderdome. Thunderdome. C?mon. Thunderdome. Enough said.
