Review of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) by Andrew O — 15 Mar 2015
There's a lot of interesting science fiction/post-apocalyptic ideas in this story: the band of "Lord of the Flies" kids, the barter town, etc. Great action. Mad Max's arc and his portrayal by Mel Gibson really cement the character as an icon.
Tina Turner is great. I do wish, however, that this film could've broadened the scope and themes of the Mad Max franchise just a bit more. Bruce Spence playing a completely different pilot character than the one he portrays in the second film is also a bit odd and confusing.
Another minor complaint would be the surprisingly small amount of time spent in the titular Thunderdome. Maybe a couple more fights are called for here?
