Review of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) by Eugene B — 07 May 2015
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is the Return of the Jedi of the Mad Max trilogy. Like Jedi, Thunderdome is a more imaginative movie, but ultimately a tamer, more kid-friendly movie than its predecessors. Everything that was great about the first two movies is greatly downplayed (the kinetic energy, chase scenes and stunts) in favor for more post-apocalyptic fantasy culture.
It is interesting stuff, and I can appreciate the creativity and attempt at something new, but I wish it felt more like the first two films and was a bit more violent and "adult". The final chase scene is good, though not quite as good as The Road Warrior, and the set pieces and look of the movie is great.
Just a slight disappointment following up one of the best action movies ever.
