Review of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) by Ian R — 27 May 2015
I like parts of this film, but it is not the greatest of films overall or even in its own franchise. I really like the first act of this film, the part in Bartertown. I like the staging and conflict there, I like the fight scenes (even with cheesy bungees involved), I like Max's strategy, I like the climax of the Thunderdome battle and how it swerve's the story.
The second act feels like a totally new movie starts up and it goes off the tracks a little with the lost kids in a hidden oasis. It's not bad on its own, per se; it's just that it really comes out of nowhere in this film! The movie comes back for me a little in the third act (which is a mash up of the first and second act, with the children venturing to Bartertown with Max) because it wraps up issues from the first act with a road war sequence.
Overall, I find it enjoyable and culturally significant for "Two men enter! One man leaves!", but it is not the greatest of films.
