Review of Mad Max (1979) by Alexis N — 03 May 2011
Finally we watched this film after 31 years since its first released.
It is a bit weird to watch now, as it looks a bit dated..however still gripping.
The story is simple..We have a hero, and he is pursuing vengeance.
The film has a very tight edit and some great, some time, painful STUNTS!
The characters essentially make beautiful the film. They are very weird. Very simple and crazy, juxtapose with a post-apocalyptic world!
The movie is packed with action, but sometime what moves the action is just the colossal music score.
Anyway Mad Max is the first Australian film to be shot on an anamorphic wide lens (what does it mean?) and it is an independent production.
The mix of the lather, the metal, the dust, the gasoline, the violence, the characters way of dressing, make this film very compelling to watch...
Mad Max also set a groundbreaking era for science fiction.
One of the most popular movie that spawned from Mad Max is OKUTO NO KEN.
A dystopian action anime where the society is very fragmented.
Mad Max-inspired the post apocalyptic future world of the anime and the protagonist Kenshiro, originally a high school student in Hara's earlier story, became an older and more stoic hero inspired by Bruce Lee.
