Review of Mad Max (1979) by Nate W — 01 Jun 2012
In a dystopic future Australia where the hellish outback country is infested with violent bike gangs and the police struggle to bring order to a rapidly disintegrating society, one man with a vendetta stands above the law, ready to bring his own brand of road justice to the vicious pillagers who murdered his own wife and child.
The amateurish feel of this first installment of George Miller's trilogy makes it hard for it to stand up to the superior sequel, "The Road Warrior", but with a budget of only $400,000 it can be forgiven some of its chintziness (some of the chase sequences turn out quite well, in fact).
Amusing as some of the thrills might be, the film still doesn't hold up to critical scrutiny.
