Review of Mad Max (1979) by Lewis E — 24 May 2015
Don't make the mistake of thinking this will be anything like 'Mad Max: Fury Road'. I didn't but you might think even worse of this Mel Gibson original if you do. The two films obviously chose alternate styles but I failed to be convinced at all by the 1979 version.
Too frequently reminds me of either a black and white horror due to its loud dramatic music or a cheesy 70's cop show with the mundane car chases and wipe scene transitions. The semi-post apocalyptic surroundings in addition to quirky characters and dialogue understandably provides 'Mad Max' with its cult classic status appeal and it deserves credit for not underestimating its audience through its storytelling but it's some way off matching the horsepower of the newly released reboot.
Hoping 'Mad Max 2:Road Warrior' will be a different story.
