The film that started the 'Mad Max' phenomenon that proceeds to this day albeit now remade.
Director George Miller made this film on a shoestring budget in his native Australia starring a then mainly unknown Mel Gibson as Max Rockatansky.
The driving stunts are great and far overstretch the film's budget.
The film starts in the aftermath of a nuclear war. However services such as the police and some degree of healthcare still exists.
It is as the Mad Max series develops that the land becomes more lawless and dwindling fuel becomes the main currency.
Here we see how Max turns from a Motor Force Police Officer to an avenging road warrior with a limp.
I recognised Max's mother in law as Sheila Florance who played the original Lizzie Birdsworth in Prisoner: Cell Block H.
A great 88 minute film.
