Review of Mad Hot Ballroom (2005) by Lee G — 03 Dec 2009
What a fantastic documentary. Who would have thought the effects of ballroom dancing in schools could be so far reaching. The film is filled with emotion, passion, triumph and loss, and it gives kids a real taste of life, as both winners and losers.
It breaks down gender and racial barriers, and it shows how mature a lot of kids are with their views on life. Kids are given a new constructive direction to go, focusing instead on beauty, choreography and creativity instead of giving up on school.
I couldn't help but feel immense pride for these kids, kids that I don't even know, as they practiced, learned and earned recognition for their dancing.
