Review of Mad Hot Ballroom (2005) by Livwaa D — 25 Jul 2005
GO GO GO.
Ghost in the Shell - Quite fun and stylized, but a bit too cryptic for a first time viewer. Especially one who is not an anime freak.
Un Chien Andalou - The supposed culmination of ideas and surrealist techniques paces itself at a break neck speed all while discussing sexuality and death (could their be any two more common "artsy" themes?). Some great cinematography and some truly twisted visuals make for a strange and near indecipherable 17 minutes.
Dog Day Afternoon - Tense, fun, and packed with anti-heroic themes, this underdog people's hero leads us into a bank heist gone awry. Just a really solid film overall.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith - An average summer flick that succeeds in its purpose to entertain. Nothing much more, though.
Mad Hot Ballroom - Emotional and all-around good fun, this makes for yet another solid documentary about those cute little urban achievers. However, its no Spellbound.
