Review of Mad Hot Ballroom (2005) by Katie R — 11 Nov 2005
Well, yes I'm glad I finally saw this documentary; these kids are really cute, and exceptional dancers for their age. Pretty intelligent too...judging from their commentary on life and dancing. However, I had gathered that in the first half, and the second half was simply more of the same. I mean, I know it had to follow the competition through to the end, but for some reason it seemed like it needed something else...a more unique way of presenting the story or something. It seemed to drag out the closer it came to the end, without presenting much new information or imagery.
However, I loved the stories about the kids who really changed as a result of learning to dance, as well as the ones who now want to be professional dancers. It could serve as a great PSA for keeping arts in the schools. They are just as important, if not more so, than sports in contributing to a child's exposure and development.
