Review of Mad Hot Ballroom (2005) by Sarah S — 30 Apr 2007
This film is enjoyable on two levels - firstly, on a very shallow level, the kids are extremely cute and say many sweet and funny things. On a deeper level the film really appeals to the youth worker in me - because it starts to explore many of the issues these kids are facing in their daily lives - from both the kids' naive perspective and also the teacher's points of view.
The film could go a little deeper and I also feel that it perhaps tries a little too hard to manipulate our emotions so that we get a 'feel good' factor by the end - but it's still worth a watch all the same.
