Review of Mad City (1997) by Oli J — 20 Mar 2007
Travolta is so miscast in this film....and impossibly dumb. People this dumb can only exist in movies. The best scenes are with hoffman and Alan alda. The scenes between hoffman and travolta are inbalanced by travoltas crapness.
..he always on the verge of tears, like someone's just told him that he's not actually wearing a fat suit. And Hoffman. He thinks hes making an important film in this one, doing all his usual tics, like breaking off mid-sentence, gesturing wildly, repeating lines for dramatic effect.
His acting is really weak sometimes. Just witness the last moment where he looks up to the sky, engulfed by cameras, and shouts we killed him! it seems so fake, and scripted. If Hoffman had been an autistic journalist maybe he wouldve won another oscar.
