Review of Machuca (2004) by Flávia B — 22 Dec 2006
A heartfelt depiction showing how life leading upto and during the military coup of 1973 affected different classes of Chile. Viewed from both Pedro's perspective and his upper class friend the movie really conveys that sense of injustice that the people living in the slums got absolutely shafted by Pinochet. The ending is really sad too, kind of depressing :( Although the coming-of-age bits were really cute, especially the bits with the condensed milk hehe.
Kind of sad that history just keeps on repeating itself eh?
