Review of Machine Gun Preacher (2011) by Jorge D — 27 Feb 2013
Apparently based on an amazing true story, "Redemption" has a strong presence of Gerard Butler - in one of his best performances - embodying a former addict, who has the help of religion to rebuild his life and starts to work as volunteer, helping children in Uganda, where a bloody civil war occurs.
Despite the overly simplistic content of some passages, the production features the always competent direction of Marc Forster to transform a difficult story in an effective drama with a touch of action to ensure the pace of the film, and avoid excessive sentimentality, or the mystification of its protagonist.
8.5/10.0.
