Review of Machine Gun Preacher (2011) by Rafiq U — 24 Jun 2012
This pre-Kony fever, action-drama about Sam Childers, an ex-violent biker become violent freedom fighter for the children of Africa is both gripping and awesome. Gerard Butler does a good acting job, though he really looks nothing like the real Sam Childers. The brutality of the movie, also mixed with Sam's real family problems and how he neglects them, shows a different type of drama. He is a good person, but he sacrifices himself and others for them. It's good to see these aspects in the movie, since it's rare that a flick like this ends on a mixed note. If you're looking for a modern classic it's not here, but if you're looking for the story of a real life badass you got it.
PROS: Badass story, Gerard Butler, great action.
CONS: Not always easy to follow, uneven pacing.
