Review of Machine Gun Preacher (2011) by Tony K — 24 Jan 2013
Meh...This actually could have been fantastic. Instead, it was just another vaguely interesting biopic. Don't get me wrong, the subject is fascinating, and Gerard Butler is really good as Sam Childers.
My problem is the movie itself. It's slow paced, clunkily written, and goes nowhere. There is no climax to the movie itself, it just kind of ends. But the thing is, beneath the failures of the movie, the story itself has a ton of potential, and Sam Childers is an absolutely fascinating and complex character, but there is just nothing overly super compelling about this movie as a whole.
