Review of Machete Kills (2013) by Andrew H — 21 Oct 2013
B-.
Disclaimer. This is up and down a redonkulous movie. As redonkulous as the word, redonkulous.
Now that's out of the way, in some otherworldly fashion, I loved it!
It's cheesy, campy, schlocky, crude, crass, unnecessary, funny, stupid, ridiculous and the type of movie you'd sit with a bunch of your buddies and laugh to.
It's like the badass of B movies. Cliches and all. It doesn't take itself seriously at all and thusly, you'd be better served to do the same. It's from Rob Rod and is definitely his style, a la grindhouse type cheese.
Now I have to go watch the rest! Chances are if you like silly stuff like This is the End or Rocky Horror, you stand a chance of liking it.
What I didn't like is the purposely low budget type stuff. It'd have been a little better with some high notch special effects to go along with the high end shtick it was slinging but I guess that's the way this franchise rolls. The story is utterly silly and gets worse but that's 1/2 the fun.
I'll be collecting em for sure on Blu-ray or HD digital.
Again, it's not for everyone, it actually may not even be for most.
