Review of Machete Kills (2013) by Brett H — 20 Nov 2013
It's about that time for Hollywood to tell Robert Rodriguez his style is tired, overblown, and groan-inducing by this point, and Machete Kills should be the death of his career. Words cannot express how terrible this junk is with useless cameo after cameo popping up, Machete's plot being a James Bond ripoff, and the fact that in this one they prove that the character is invincible; so where's the suspense!? I sat completely stone-faced watching this cartoon play out and the only thing that livened it up a bit was Mel Gibson's presence.
The film was shot in 29 days and it shows with how rushed, cheap, and non-sensical every bit of this looks. They even neglected to make it properly grindhouse, everything looks far too polished.
