Review of Machete Kills (2013) by Oluwaseyi O — 16 Jun 2014
By assuming Machete Kills was gonna be a catastrophe in camp, Robert Rodriguez exceeded my expectations in terms of how executed that "camp" was gonna be. But although it's perhaps not the worst in Rodriguez's recent cannon of box-office bombs, an ensemble cast who have been shunned by Hollywood at least once or twice before -- and some of whom only half-deliver their lines, specifically Charlie Sheen and Lady Gaga, who are more suited for their regular day jobs -- and a satirical approach at B-film violence and visuals can't save this sequel from the higher standards set by its predecessor, which already didn't need a sequel unless it were carried on via TV or a graphic novel.
