Review of Machete Kills (2013) by Jose M — 31 Aug 2014
Despite the promising trailer for it, Machete Kills, but it's blade becomes dull and ineffective to strike other vital targets. Despite a promising supporting cast and a zany plot, bad guy with a nuke aimed at Washington DC, Machete Kills lacks the excitement the first one had along with the politic incorrectness revolving around the subject released during the time when Arizona released a "tough" anti-immigration bill.
Here we have Machete sent to Mexico to find a madman who is rumored to have a nuclear bomb aimed at Washington DC. Machete also becomes the target of assassins seeking to cash in on his head. We are introduced to all kinds of characters and see all kinds of action scenes that are over the top, but it's too glossy and over produced to be effective to fit in an hour and forty-eight minute time slot.
The dialogue and performances are over the top and at times sloppy along with the zingers Machete says: Machete don't text. Director Robert Rodriguez has demonstrated that can be a decent storyteller, but he also over do it not allowing enough tension to build.
Still, that won't stop me from seeing Machete's next film, Machete Kills Again in Space.
