Review of Machete Kills (2013) by Scott C — 10 Apr 2015
Machete Kills is sadly a further sign of Robert Rodriguez's diminishing filmmaking prowess, silly, lazy, witless, stupid and filled with terrible cgi, it can be a wearying experience. Rodriguez should call upon the help of his buddy Tarantino because clever dialogue is not his forte, despite how much he clearly thinks it is.
In the end it's the amazing and mostly wasted cast who make everything watchable, you have varying actors (Antonio Banderas, cuba Gooding Jr, Walton Goggins and...er....Lady Gaga) playing a single character called the Chameleon, Demian Bichir steals the whole movie as personality disorder suffering villain/sort of antihero Mendez The Madman, Modern Family star Sofia Vergara is wonderfully demented as a "boob gun" toting brothel owner and Mel Gibson saves the day with his third act appearance as the mian master mind badguy, and speaking of which, the last third of the movie comes alive quite a bit with mad sci-fi shenanigans that will feed nicely into the mental sounding "Machete Kills Again: In Space".
So yes it's intermittent good fun, but Robert dude, stop mucking around and get back to making proper movies again please.
