Review of Machete Kills (2013) by Jonathan B — 21 Jun 2014
This is the birth of an B-grade concept with A grade actors and directors. This is a fun movie, and merely self-indulgent. The beginning loses direction in it's bloodbath of mayhem, but by the end the story is bold and almost smart in it's complexity. Mel Gibson is fantastic as the leading villain, and there are some surprisingly good roles by the likes of Lady Gaga, Sofia Vergara and Amber Heard.
It does not have the classic feel of the original, but does deliver as a worthy sequel.
I look forward to the final instalment of the trilogy.
