Review of Machete (2010) by Trevor J — 11 Sep 2012
If any other director (probably with the exception of Tarantino) would have tried to make this movie, it would have been a disaster. What I like and respect about Rodriguez is that he knows what style he's going for.
Whether it be "Sin City" or "Spy Kids," he approaches each film he makes in its own unique way. This film was suppose to be funny, gory, violent, and somewhat corny. That was a point of the film and Rodriguez knew that before going into it.
Also, what a great cast! I love Rodriguez. She's great in everything she does. Steven Seagal plays a Mexican drug lord. Who would have ever thought! And, you can barely tell that Trejo is pushing 70.
He makes every bit of being a "ladies man" believable. When he got Rodriguez and Alba in bed, I didn't dare think to second guess it. In addition, this film is indeed far from being perfect, but I can definitely say is serves its purpose.
..Oh, and how can I forget, that one actor Robert De Niro is in this movie too!
