Review of MacGruber (2010) by Shane D — 12 Jun 2011
Being a fan of Saturday Night Live, I knew of this character. So when news of the film came out I fully expected to find a guilty enjoyment in it. Months after its release I finally got around to seeing it and I guess the best thing I could say is that would work great as a 3 minute sketch on SNL.
Not as a 2 hour film. Unfortunately it becomes incredibly sad and tiresome after a little while, only every now and then is there a moment that raises a chuckle, Forte, Phillippe and the rest of the supporting cast just amble through uninspired.
However, Wiig is great AS ALWAYS and Kilmer puts in a pretty fun turn as an overweight bad guy. Youâ(TM)d be best served to avoid this monstrousity, perhaps just settle for watching the trailer, youâ(TM)ll get all the best gags, youâ(TM)ll marvel at the MacGyver riff and you wont have killed 2 hours.
