Did I laugh? Yes. Did I enjoy the movie? Yes Was it stupid? Yes. Was this in any way an original movie with a gripping plot? Not at all. BUT. It's a comedy, and it knew what it wanted you to do. Laugh, and I did that a lot more than I expected.
I enjoyed it, and I never felt bored. So for that MacGruber you get a VERY surprising 4 stars.
