Review of MacGruber (2010) by Jordan F — 15 Apr 2011
With a character annoying as F#%* this movie will do absolutely nothing for you.
I don't think I laughed one time during this movie. It tries to go over the top but the Mac Gruber is so annoying that everything he does just comes off as stupid.
The film starts off with some Bad guy played by Val Kilmer acquiring a Russian Nuke. Mac Gruber, who is a take on Mc Guyver from the popular TV show, is somewhere in Asia meditating because his fiancee was murdered during his wedding by Val Kilmer. Mac Gruber comes back to the US to get revenge and stop Val Kilmer.
He is teamed up with a rookie officer and an old female friend, who obviously becomes the love interest. Blah blah blah.
Why this film doesn't work:
MacGruber is a pompous arrogant idiot who just talks a lot and gets his team into trouble by being so bad at his job. He has no character and just causes problems for everyone around him. He's like inspector Gadget in the sense that he is incompetent except for the fact that Inspector gadget is kinda cool because he can do things that other people can't. Mac Gruber on the other had is practically useless the entire movie. The things he invents are stupidly ineffective at doing anything and his plans are even worse. Don't watch this movie unless your bar for comedy is extremely low.
