Review of Mac and Me (1988) by Clark P — 07 Jan 2008
There are some movies that you fondly remember from your childhood and for me this applies to the love it or hate it slice of 80's sci-fi that is 'Mac And Me'. Heavily criticised by many for it's blatant product placements, 'Mac And Me' is actually harmless family fun that really does have it's good points.
Forget the McDonald's dance-off and that misjudged cliff scene and what you have is a likeable combination of 'An American Tail' and 'E.T. The Extra Terrestrial'. The young cast are likeable enough and there are some impressive visuals, a memorable score by Alan Silvestri and an array of toe tapping 80's pop songs to enjoy.
The only downside is despite the promise of "We'll Be Back!", this was to be Mac's first and only big screen outing.
