Review of Ma mère (2004) by Nicole X — 30 Aug 2008
Honore pushes the limits of cinema with Ma Mere. One of Louis Garrelâ??s and Emma de Caunesâ??s finest performances to date, but Isabelle Huppert has been in better roles. Itâ??s a controversial film, many times overly so, but the developments of Pierre and Hansiâ??s characters are quite interesting.
The end scene is brilliant, very dark European humor that is ironic and disturbing and satisfying simultaneously. Watch with great caution and an open mind.
