Review of Ma mère (2004) by Dale J — 31 Aug 2009
Although réalisateur Honoré never seems able to dispel the literary origins of his films (even when they aren't literary adaptations!), this one runs up on the grain of Bataille's novel and often captures its spirit well in cinematic terms.
Hard to take for a lot of people, intent on shock effect, it proves worthwhile for some and garbage for others. In movie-land, that's the way the cookie crumbles.
